so, who do you want to push for number one next week courtesy of MacRumors/MacBytes?

    :)

Surprisingly enough, this may trigger the era of Internet Music ads..... cause getting #1 on the billboard top-whatever is press in itself.

haha, just post a specific song, we all buy and get it and we could push it to #1!

    haha!

How about we make our own Indie company and release 'Mac Rumors is #1' with the song 'Go to Macrumors.com!' and we all download it and it gets up there, great idea aint it? :p

Hopefully the ads won't be like those crazy ads before a movie in the movie theaters! It would just plain stink to have to listen to a non-fast fowardable 30 second commercial for Viagra, just so you could play back a Raffi song for your kids.....

    Arn,

If you are serious I'll donate a song (an original) and give you the rights to publish it. By no means am I a professional musician. I just write electronic music as a hobby. Sounds like fun to me!

P.S. All profits go to Macrumors to keep the site running!

I always wanted to start a chain email to have everyone vote on TRL for "Take on me" by Aha on a certain day, that would be funny to have Carson say, "And today at number 1 its AHA take on me!"

Well I hate chain emails and don't think that it would work anyway since record compainies employ people at minimum wage to vote all day for thier artists. So lets all go out andbuy Aha take on me and take it to number on the Billboard charts.

Per the article, Time after Time by Cindy Lauper was #10 for no real reason. I guess people just wanted to get that song in digital format. :)

    itunes top ten list

I've been wondering why until just very recently, Coldplay's Clocks song has been in the iTunes top 10 list every day I checked. Has it really been selling that well on iTunes? (It's currently at #11)

    Kevin Bacon?

Here's another off-the-wall thought... You know the new promotion that VW has "Buy a Beetle, get an iPod for free"... If you go to vw.com and click the "Pods Unite" link a Flash based presentaion plays. In there is a link to MP3's and 10 songs you can download. Maybe we should buy those tunes from the music store using "The Kevin Bacon Theory", you know if you keep searching somehow you are related to Kevin Bacon. The same with these tunes and Apple! On a related, sad, note; Parts of the VW website does not work well in Safari... Shame VW, Shame...

Two tracks lend themselves to this, "Mac Man" by Beanie Sigel (it's rap, with clean and explicit versions) OR "Toby's Mac" by tobyMac (it's a :45 track).

I think "Toby's Mac" would be the best test of the forums power, the track/artist is/are obscure enough that any jump would be huge.

Arn, you call it, and then give a one week count down to a buy day/time. I'm in, after all, "it's only a buck"

    Re: itunes top ten list

I think it has only because its that kind of song. Whatever that means. Seriously, I believe that a lot of people who like that song would never buy the whole album, so the iTMS is a good way to go. Plus it probably attracts a lot of people, because of it's style with the emphasis on the piano.

I have always loved Take On Me. I would buy it from iTMS for this little experiment.

Hows about we push "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice up there. Its only fair since he paved the way for other white rappers like eminem. :D

This is funny and interesting at the same time. While the ability to push an obscure artist into instant "fame" if that's what you want to call it is interesting, it could actually show interesting trends in music buying that record stores can't show. Like how popular 80's music is still today (or it's resurgence), and record store sales can't really show that well since the albums aren't on the shelves anymore.

Anyhow, I'm game to help push some starving artist group to the number 1 position, if it will help a brother out. I would assume even that much little publicity for a struggling band would make a world of difference.

(OT) This is post #299 for me...

Anybody like Mozart? I've got a good recording of the Linz symphony and the concerto for 2 pianos that my orchestra just performed.

So say BAND A would somehow contact (maybe thru their web site) 2000 fans, tell them all to buy the song off the net, from one of those stores? Yea, that'll happen. "Hey, we want to be #1, tell 10 of your friends to buy our mp3, and they'll tell 10 friends and so on and so on...."

Yea it's possible, but highly unlikely. The song will get #1 because of its popularity, not some bands conspiracy to steal the top spot

You don't think if some well-trafficed site posted "Let's all buy xyz song" this week to get in the billboard top 10, it couldn't happen?

I think it's very possible. I'm sure there are better known bands - but certainly not Top-10 bands who have 1000-2000 fans on the internet that would pay $.99 to see their fav band at #1 in the national rankings.

1500 sales in one week is within reach. Frankly, if I were an artist, i'd probably just drop $1500 on iTunes music store myself to see my band at #1.
