Maybe, but I see think it has more to do with people hating on rim. I don't see how the apple u2 commercial had anything to do with the rim one.

and maybe i am a little biased for owning a blackberry and not an iphone :D

Really? Are you serious or are you thinking of another device that didn't actually revolutionise enterprise communications?

However, if you want lack of originality MG Seigler's articles are pretty good places to start.

The only thing that I see any where close to coping apple is using U2. Neither Apple cold play nor Rim commercial were originals. I had seen things a lot like that long before both of them came out.

Agreed. Apple's commercials have been seen as knock-offs themselves for quite some time.

It seems that more and more ad agencies have been moving towards similar commercials to help get the interest of the younger demographics.

On a side note - I'm surprised this story even made it into the macbytes.com selection.

This says more about U2 than it does about RIM, imo. I'm not sure that commercial is a good RIM commercial (they don't do music...), and I can see the resemblance between the Apple ad, but there are very few really unique ads out there.

Yep. very true on all of it.

Minus apple first iPod add they are not unique and even that one was a rip off (taken from the link some one else posted)

I could see why rim is doing the music part more to stop the of its main target going over to the iPhone. What the blackberry does well is be a business phone and as it stands it king of that area with it push email and productivity tool. But put music in and it gives it that little extra edge it needed. It looks like Blackberry is prepping to add a music store to it app store. The blackberry app store is a lot older than apples.

That is the more important part. Also, I don't really think U2, given their new album and humungous world tour is caring whether or not the RIM commercials look like the Apple Commercials, somehow iThink Larry Mullen Jr. has other things to be worrying about.

Hopefully they're figuring out how to say farewell with grace and class before they embarrass themselves with another lackluster album.
