I picked up an open box iPod touch because it was a little cheaper, and imagine my delight when i realized i can't use it because the last person who had it put a password on it, and iTunes won't do anything because it says i need to unlock the iPod with a password.

Is there any way i can un-brick my touch or should i bring it back?

Maybe you can try the recovery mode.

    1. Plug your iPod into the computer and start iTunes.
    2. Hold sleep and home button, you'll see your iPod reset.
    3. The moment it displays the Apple logo, let go of the sleep button but keep holding the home button.
    4. The Apple logo should change to something else in a few seconds.
    5. You can then restore your iPod.

It might just work, definitely worth a try then to bring the iPod back.

personally, id be pissed off if it was easy to recover an ipod from an unknown password, if it were then what the hell is the point of having it on there in the first place

Thats a good point, but it doesn't help me out :p

But i guess if you stole an ipod and then saw it was locked you'd probably ditch it somewhere and leave, and possibly steal a different one some other time.

also theres pretty much a work around for anything that has a password

That's a pretty strong indication of a stolen iPod. :(

I assure you i did not steal it, i work at futureshop, which is pretty much best buy but in canada, and they had an open box iPod that i guess somebody returned, so i thought i'd save a couple bucks because theres essencially no mark-up on iPods, therefore no emplyee discount.

Oh ya and the thing you said to do worked :D:cool: So happy i finally get to use it.
