Really, what is the fuss about? Anyone with half a brain will realise the Da Vinci code is 'fictional' and not to be taken literally. Entertainment, nothing more.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060428/en_nm/vatican_davinci_dc_3

    Intro Snip:
"ROME (Reuters) - The Vatican stepped up its offensive against "The Da Vinci Code" on Friday when a top official close to Pope Benedict blasted the book as full of anti-Christian lies and urged Catholics to boycott the film."

"He said that if "such lies and errors had been directed at the Koran or the Holocaust they would have justly provoked a world uprising.""

We all know a lot of ( not all ) Muslims have a huge great pole stuck up their arses that needs to be removed ASAP....
( I'm trying to be light hearted, though I do think they need to chill , but this is digressing )

I thought the rest of the world accused Islam of being off it's rocker the way it responded to 'The Satanic Verses'. Same kind of thing, no? At least the Catholics aren't calling for the author's death yet, but how can the pope say that?

In any case, he's just helped the book (and the upcoming movie) reach an even wider audience than before by condemning it.

Hmmm, sounds familiar to another book I've heard of wonder if the author of that'll try to sue? Of course that would be a complicated case as it had more than one author.

Well, the pope may be right about Catholics being an easier target than Muslims or Jews. Without having seen the movie or read the book, though, I can't really tell.

And that's the irony of this kind of boycott call. I'm Catholic. But I'm not about to stay away from the movie just on someone else's say-so. When I see it for myself, then I'll decide if it's anti-Catholic and/or libelous.

I wonder if the Pope is more disturbed by The Da Vinci Code or Dogma?

Maybe he just needs to get out more. Loosen up. Live a little. Learn to laugh at himself.:p

the movie will most likely target the historical catholic church and vatican banned opus dei (by order of vatican II), both nothing remotely related to the catholic church of today which is more known for their charity and calls against modern war

for someone to target catholics in hate crimes because they didn't like some evil action some catholics made centuries ago would be an ignorant act of hate

much of the long history of atrocities in the catholic church vs. the much newer protestant churches does not stem from the catholic church being more corrupt, but only that they have been around longer to do more bad, and good

Maybe it should be boycotted because it's not a very good story!

having read "illuminati" from Dan Brown i guess i can know where this is coming from ... my brain literally hurt from the pseudo "history of art" stuff he made up and lame plot twists

i suspect the da vinci code being no different and having taken courses on the art of da vinci myself i only have to read through reviews to know how ridiculous it is

and his whole attitude makes it worse ...

i will skip the movie anyways because i might disturb the cinema with my laughter ...

I've been rather suspect of anyone named Josemaria for some time. So, the Vatican calls for a boycott of the Da Vinci Code? Does that mean they already anticipated what calling for a boycott would do, which is put a "forbidden fruit" tag on the film, and therefore draw even more out to see it? Which would mean they want us to see it?

Whether it's a spotlight, searchlight, flashlight or silver screen, anything which attempts to shine a light on obscure orders who prefer obscurity probably deserves a look, if even to dispute the premises.

there can't even be a cartoon made with the prophet muhammed(not making fun of him either) without the fanatics going crazy and blowing things up. i think that is ridiculous, and in that case, i think the pope is right. just like if anyone said anything other then what is common knowledge about the holocaust, jews would get pissed.

that said, i think the davinci code is a crock of ****, and i'd just as well boycott it because it's a stupid piece of garbage rather then anything the pope says.
