For some reason, whenever I turn on my computer now and start using it, just for internet, chatting, and itunes, it gradually gets darker and darker. It's lowering its brightness setting by itself and it's driving me crazy. What IS this problem and how can I fix it?

    Oh, I have a MacBook 1.83 ghz.

    Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is a feature on the MB, but the ambient light sensor will do that. If you don't care for it, go into the preferences --> display and turn off the automatic brightness adjustment.

it will be at the bottom of the page that says display (not the color tad) of the display preferences (unless the mb just doesn't have it)

Not sure if you really mean gradually, but the displays on all LCD based Macs seem to dim the display on the half way point before it turns off.

[i.e. If your display is set to sleep in 10 min, it will automatically dim at 5]

You gotta go download those new drivers:p No jokes but restart, don't touch your light censor. Do the basics to fix it.

    Finding auto brightness adjustment

If anyone is still having this problem which i doubt, the auto adjustment button you were looking for is just under the brightness adjusting tab. if you hit system preferences then display (icon is a plasma i think) it is in the far right hand side at the top below the manual adjustment bar:)

MacBooks most certainly do have ambient light sensors. Under the "Displays" pane in the System Preferences, there's a checkbox for "Automatically adjust brightness". Perhaps this box is checked on the OP's machine.

BTW OP, this should have been posted in the MacBook forum. This is the Mac Pro (desktop workstation) forum.
