    It's a big shock. Will be sorely missed.

    A broadcasting legend. Will be remembered very fondly not only by fans but by the whole of the british music industry and the BBC.

    Rest in peace, John.

    I heard about this on the way home, what a damn shame, John Peel was a constant voice throughout my childhood, he was responsible for introducing me to more new bands than anyone else.

    A constant island of reason and good musical taste, he never gave much credence to popularity, and always said exactly what he meant.

    A giant. He will be sorely missed.
