    Thanks for the tip!

    1) How long did the entire process take?
    2) How is the VCD quality?

OSEx. This will let you do all kinds of rips and can remove encryption.

ffmpegX. This will allow you to do all kinds of encoding. However, it crashes on occasion (version 0.0.9j - not even a 0.1 release yet).

    1) copying the dvd is pretty fast, some minutes. but encoding it to mpeg (by ffmpegx) is a long process, takes some hours.
    2) quality depends upon user settings, you can increase or decrease as per your liking/time you have.

    cheers

Thanx for the link especially for the ffmpegx, it is not just for video stuff but is for audio as well which makes it for useful due to the nature of my work.
