Anyone see Bush's speech to the UN in NY today? I saw an extract on BBC TV. He looked decidedly uncomfortable in the photo-op handshaking session with Kofi Annan - a kind of idiotic grin throughout!

He started by re-itterating the case for war saying

"The regime of Saddam Hussein cultivated ties to terror while it built weapons of mass destruction".

Gees - some people never give up!

I didn't see it this morning, I'm looking over the news sites now... I can't imagine it went over all that well though.

If you want to see Kofi Annan's, Bush's, or Chirac's speeches they can be viewed on-line at the BBC's website.

I watched Annan's and Bush's speeches and both were effectively delivered. The content of Bush's speech was defiant and polarizing. It was for a US audience not a serious attempt to bridge gaps with those who opposed the invasion.

I think everyone here knows the BBC site, but just in case it is at:

The MSN news site described Kofi Anan's speach as the speach that Bush should have given.

I'm surprised no one has put forth a resolution condemning what the US did.

I was driving along the other day, and saw a billboard that really was sickening. It said, "Get US out of the UN" with the letter US printed in red white and blue. Since when did the conservative American public start thinking the US was an absolute power that didn't have to listen to the one organization in the world that has any ability to get the world to unite on issues?

It's the John Birch Society; this has been their slogan for probably 40 years now, and hardly anyone has taken them seriously for just as long. But now I'm beginning to wonder if we don't have a few closet Birchers in the White House.
