and please keep your complaints to yourself. Thank you, you have been warned.

Steve Jobs announced that Apple's entire product line will be transitioned to Intel in 2006. This is earlier than previously announced at WWDC 2005. Jobs notes that over the coming months we will hear announcements as each product line is transitioned. All by the end of this calendar year.

Didn't pick this up earlier, but I've not had a chance to watch the keynote stream yet. If the iMacs are supposedly twice as fast, I can't wait to see what the PowerMacs (or whatever they're going to be called now they seem to be getting rid of the 'Power' prefix) are like.

    Spot on. :D

Thank you both rdowns and lacero, for making the obvious that much more obvious to those whose common sense isn't all there;) If I had been the one to point that out it wouldn't have been so pretty. I can't bring myself to read any of these "I'm so mad I have an out-dated 4 day old iMac POS" posts (or threads) anymore. That's saying a lot because I read EVERYTHING on this site.
    Ok, I'm done.
Any Apple is a good Apple, people!!!

Good philosophy there. Now that people know whats going on, no complaints until at least 2007. And that goes for people who bought so close to MWSF too, where there was definitely going to be something announced.

Apple just replaced my G4 800 MHZ iMac that was 4 days away from its Applecare expiration date w/ a 1.9 GHZ, G5 iSight, iMac for free because of a failed logic board... This is the very 1st problem this iMac has ever given me, and it was replaced after 1 kernal panic in 3 years... lol... Should I try to give my G5 iMac back since the new ones came out 4 days after I picked up my machine...lol...;-)... just kidding...

Probably not twice as fast. Bear in mind that the twice as fast G5 is going from a single processor to a dual core processor whereas the PM are already dual/quad processor - and the test they ran, is apparently designed to test multiprocessor capabilities, so the singles would have performed less well than they do in real life.

I bought a Quad yesterday and I can't wait to get it.

One thing needs to be mentioned is that if you can wait, there's nothing wrong with that - but in my case I just couldn't wait any longer and I needed something to replace my aging dual 1.25 G4.

I know that this thread is out here for all the potential whiners, but bear in mind that its still ok to buy a G5 and regardless what you do, someone is not going to be observant, notice this and many other threads and then come in a complain :p

Bah, humbug. I love my Revision E Powerbook, the best ever made!

And thats how you should see it. If a bad ass fw800 hard drive comes out... I can still use it!

MacBook Pro, Rev B, maybe you'll get my money... if you get 6+ hours of battery especially.

Nothing will ever make our Quads slow.... Our systems are the quickest around at the moment, its going to be some feat in the short term to produce a system which makes my 16 second photoshop test result 'radial blur' look slow...My 12" PowerBook with 1.25gb takes 2mins 36secs...... Its slow

Quad PowerMac...... The last PowerPC ever...... The Greatest Ever....... BTW its had all Ram replaced and logic board replaced and it still doesnt work......LOL......But when it works it is mad

In fact, if they replace the whole product line in 2006, they will not have a machine as fast as the Quad. Intel doesn't make a CPU that would let them build a quad at all, and isn't expected to in 2006.

Well there must be something, because there is no way they would downgrade from the Quad, or any other computer.

    Oh, yes it is:

    http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=28862

Woodcrest is the new Xeon. Xeon is designed for dual/multi CPU systems and will be dual core. 2 Xeons * 2 cores per Xeon = 4 cores = Quad. QED.

with a 1.33 Ghz bus, I wonder what the chip speeds will be? And how it will compare to a Quad G5 - but I agree that they won't release something that is slower than an older model.

well, SJ could always just spin the results of the tests to make it appear faster... I mean, Apple would NEVER do a thing like that! :p
