Does anyone know of any problems with ordering Apple computers (specifically, a 1.83GHz MBP) from Amazon? I looked at their return policy, and it seems pretty straightforward. I've used them before and never had a problem.

I've heard nothing but good on the forums about Amazon Mac purchases. I might have missed something, but nothing comes to mind except for people posting about saving money. Certainly, there have been no horror stories. The only real negative is that you can't build-to-order, so, if a stock config works for you, it's probably a good option.

FWIW, if you use the "Amazon" link above, I think MR gets some $$ but it doesn't affect your cost at all.

I was planning on using that, it only makes sense (I could have used 'cents', but that would have been the worst pun in the history of the world). Originally, I was going to buy a MBP refurb for $1549 from Apple, but then I said, "Well, Amazon's always got great deals!" So I headed over there. I saw the $1799 price tag and laughed. Then I saw the $150 rebate, which made it slightly better. Then I remembered the best thing about Amazon EVER, NO SALES TAX! Hooray! It comes out (I think) $8 cheaper to buy from Amazon new than Apple refurb. And the return process sounds a lot easier. I just hope they don't consider the whine and everything to be 'spec'.

I wasn't getting BTO when I was considering a new one anyway, I'm stagger puchasing 2GB of RAM from OWC for a nice price.

EDIT: AND it'll ship in 24 hours!

I've purchased everything from electronics to books to office equipment from Amazon.com and have never had anything but a great buying experience. I'd almost say you can trust Amazon.com a bit more than Apple's sales dept., but I can't say for sure (as I've never had to send anything back through Amazon.com).

In either case, enjoy your new laptop when it arrives!

Thank you. I'll sleep better at night knowing that I can return it through a reliable returns department. And that it'll ship in TWENTY-FOUR hours!

Yeah, one of the good things about Amazon.com is that you don't have to pay tax (although you are supposed to claim it).

I bought my iMac from Amazom and some sd cards before without a problem that they weren't willing to fix. If you do get a Mac and you have a problem they will ask you to take it to a repair center to get it verified and they will replace it if need be. Like stated before I saved $300 using Amazon and not Apples EDU discount. I started going through them about a year ago and using the Amazon Prime (free two day shipping on most items) it's been great.
    Enjoy whatever you get :D
