My total for the low-end MBP with 2gb of ram, 160 gb harddrive, and 3-year warranty is 2286. The next level with a slightly higher processor and better graphics card is 2628. I don't think 342 dollars is worth a slightly better graphics card and processor, that being said can I buy the low-end macbook pro and then upgrade the graphics card on my own perhaps even to the ati x1600 with 256mb of ram? And does anyone know the brand of ram apple uses in their notebooks? (I am trying to see if it is cheaper to buy a 1gb stick online). Thanks for the help.

Hmm, I too whould be interested in upgrading my graphics card, though I don't think it's possible. If anybody knows otherwise though, speak up!

id say probably just about possible but hardly worth the attempt and VERY difficult, involving card flashing, maybe even physical soldering :S

The MBP doesn't have an upgradeable graphics card. Nor do the Mac mini, the MacBook and the 17" and 20" iMacs.

In fact none of the listed machines even have a graphics card - they have all the components that would ordinarily make up a graphics card incorporated into the logic board. No part of the graphics system is upgradeable, not the VRAM, not the processor, nothing.

go to crucial.com and follow the instructions on there to find the ram that suits your computer. then, you can go searching with those results.
