And thus Apple proves that "first mover advantage" is only an addage. Product advantages should only come based on merit...which is why iTunes has been such a success.

    ha ha ha ...

and to be a little off topic .... why didn't they get heat for claiming to be the “World’s Largest Download Music Store” ... like apple did about their PowerPC ad. Apple's claim is even viable.

back to topic .... ha ha ha buymusic.

Where'd Tazo go when you need him? Oh, BTW, I called this months ago. :p Buymusic... doomed to failure.

(Ok, technically I think we all saw it coming. But it's still funny. That's what they get)

i guess pretty much everyone here "saw" this coming...

i liked their CEO estimating that they expected 100 million songs a day initially and 200 to 300 million a year. with iTMS selling 2.5 million a week and on pace to sell about 70 million in the first year, he was off by a factor somewhere between 280 and 3. and they weren't even the first to offer the service.

if the best estimate you can get is not even within a factor of three of the most optimistic (successful) senario, you are one lousy CEO with an even lousier marketing department.

the news i read said that they will be "absorbed" into buy.com. what happens after that? will their music stop playing?

We can actually be pleased with this news. I do have compassion for those losing their job. Very pleased to see Apple with continued success.
