I just had this sent to me:

Bye, bye to the classic UI
(sung to the tune of Don McLean's "American Pie")

    A few short weeks ago
    I can still remember
When my Pismo booted with a smile

But I knew 9 never had a chance
When that announcement came from France
I'd worked with X, but never liked its style

    And mid-September made me shiver
When news from Paris was delivered
    9 was on death's doorstep
I couldn't take one more step

I'm not ashamed to say I cried
When I first read of this homicide
But something touched me deep inside
    The day the OS died
    So...

Bye, bye to the "classic" UI
Runnin' Jaguar on my Pismo, thought I'd give it a try
I swear I heard the little "Happy Mac" guy
Singin' "This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die..."

Did you steal code from Xerox PARC?
And did Lisa's GUI set the mark
    From here to Palo Alto?
Now, did you think you could change the world
With a mouse, and pirate's flag unfurled?
Did you find your CEO at PepsiCo?
Well, that Ridley Scott ad sure looked grim
With skinheads marching in the gym
    It made the nightly news
Man, I dig those IBM blues
    I was a middle-aged consultant, stuck
With an SE30 and a pickup truck
So I knew that I was out of luck
    The day the OS died
    I started singin'

    (Chorus)

Now, for five years we've been on a roll
    Since the "iCEO" took control
But that's not how it used to be
When the jester sang for the Apple board
In a voice that couldn't be ignored
Claimed that Sculley didn't know the industry
Oh, and while the king was China-bound
The jester tried to steal his crown
    But Steve's advance was spurned
    The coup was overturned
Well, I pulled my Newton out, and tried
To jot down what I felt inside
    But it got all transmogrified
    The day the OS died
    We were singin'

    (Chorus)

    DayStar, UMAX, Radius and Power
A StarMax desktop, or a MacTell tower?
Eight miles high, but falling fast
    The clones' chutzpah was unsurpassed
    Remember "Let's kick Intel's ass"?
But the jester knew their license wouldn't last
Now, these clones as a collective bunch
    Were eating Cupertino's lunch
They tried to join the dance
Oh, but they never got the chance
'Cause when the players tried to take the field
The Apple brand refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
    The day the OS died?
    We started singin'

    (Chorus)

Oh, once we'd seen the last of Dr. Gil
Steve engineered a pact with Bill
    To counter Apple's downward slide
    To Microsoft, it sounded great
    They promised Office 98
Plus a hundred fifty million on the side
    But Apple's faithful were enraged
As Gates appeared above the stage
    No angel born in Hell
    Could break that Satan's spell
And as his visage faded from our sight
And Boston shut down for the night
I heard Redmond laughing with delight
    The day the OS died
    Yeah, they were singin'

    (Chorus)

    I scoured MacSurfer's Headline News
    For pro-9, anti-UNIX views
But finding none, I turned away
On Friday night, the Apple stores
Saw thousands queued up at their doors
For a Jaguar T-shirt/mouse pad giveaway
Of OS X, the pundits rave
About how Apple has been saved
But I feel like a loser
    I really miss the Chooser
And the OS I've admired most
    Is now—to put it bluntly—toast
I felt it giving up the ghost
    The day the OS died
    And they were singing

    (Chorus)

Man, this person really spent some time on that! I would have expected a verse or two + the chorus, but he did the full American Pie Parts 1 AND 2.

    Very clever.

Man, great! It just makes me want to "do" this song and make a musicvideo for it, featuring footage of the Expos and so on... now, wouldnt that be cool?? :D
