    Hey all

So, consensus is that it runs significantly cooler. That's good.

But has anyone had a chance to compare processing speed against the Core Duo predecessor? Does anyone still have their old MBP?!

(I haven't found a thread concerning speed yet... unless I missed something).

I'm not expecting lab-controlled testing (I'm sure BareFeats will get that side of things together some time). I know clock speeds and HDD selection and quantity of RAM are factors anyhow. I'm just wondering if anyone's got a feel for whether their new machines are appreciably faster.

    iTunes encoding?
QuickTime Pro conversions to iPod video?
The famous LogicPro "number of PlatinumVerbs" test.

For me, FW800, bigger drives, more RAM and running cooler are enough on their own to make it a worthwhile upgrade. But do you think Apple's "faster" claims are borne out? Or does that only happen if you get a 2.33? ;)

Duh - I just Googled about a bit and found this:

Which is encouraging. They estimate about a 10% speed increase for the same processor clock speed. Crumbs, a couple of benchmarks are very significantly better on C2D - like half as fast again.

Still, would love to hear some "real world" reports. Anyone?
