It appears to me that people, in general dismiss caffeine as just another ingredient like sugar, or salt. The truth, as most of you know, but may not consider often, is that caffeine is a drug. Quite a potent and addictive one as well. While the LD50 on caffeine (lethal dose for 50% of subjects) would be around 5,000mg-10,000mg depending on gender, height weight, tolerance, etc. In many instances, it could be considerably less that could kill someone. Many people have unknown conditions that could be exacerbated by caffeine and could have a lethal effect. Caffeine is everywhere! It's in soda, energy drinks (many of which don't even have to list the amount of caffeine they contain, like 5hr energy), candy, caffeine pills, headache pills with caffeine as an addition ingrediant (Excedrin, Anacin), caffeine drops, liquids, energy bars, other food, smoothies, etc. It could be very easy to take too much caffeine and experience some pretty uncomfortable effects, at least! Why am I writing this? I'm concerned. While it's not within my power to control what anyone else does, I believe people should at the very least be aware that caffeiene has been increasingly going into new products like never before and it's not safe. So please, be careful and know what your food and drinks contain!
