Can Garageband help clean noisy takes?

I tried recording my professor using my MBP internal mic. The take is clear and adequate but I would like to remove some background noise caused by a microphone turned up way high.
Will Garageband do this - Filtering out the noise and perhaps adjust the volume a bit?

You can probably mess the the eqing and compression to get rid of a lot of background noise.
