Im sending in my MBP for repair cuz of the whine and they told me to backup my stuff. I like the idea that they are going to REPAIR my mbp and not just send me out a new mbp. I feel like they've adressed the issue and can fix it and not just send me another mbp that can have the same buzz issues. I thought of just copying my home folder onto my 60 gb ipod. But is there a way that i can back up my data onto the ipod, and if they send me a new mbp connect the ipod to the new mbp and transfer the info kinda like how you setup 2 macs via firewire using target disk mode? I just dont wanna lose all my apple mail settings, and network settings, apps..etc etc.

You should be able to back up your MBP hard disk to an image file on your iPod using SuperDuper, and then transfer it all back again using SuperDuper. I believe that Carbon Copy Cloner does the same, but I haven't used it.

I'm not sure. Try moving some stuff then move it back. If not, just go pick up some blank DVDs and back up to disc.
