Cancelling orders placed by gift card

    Today, I ordered a laptop backpack and an iLap from Apple's website. I accidentally ordered the wrong size iLap and I tried to cancel the order. I placed the order online and I paid with a giftcard. I cancelled it, and I got my confirmation e-mail. I waited about an hour, and I tried again. The balance of my gift card was $0.00. I called them and they said that it would take 3 days to put the balance back onto the gift card.

    Two questions:
    *Why was the gift card charged before my order shipped?
    *Why does it take so long to put the balance back?

    In this case, because it's a giftcard, I'm assuming the protocol is different. Also, had you done the same thing with a credit card, it would also have taken three days for the authorization on your account to disappear.

    You probably would have been better off to call Apple and simply change the order.
