My camcorder is finicky and choosing not to sync the regular way via USB (and yes I had it plugged in and tried different USB cables and plugged it in and out numerous times), so I researched and found the method of importing via SD card. However, when I attempt to open the .MTS files in iMovie 11, the files are greyed out so I cannot import them. Any suggestions or work arounds would be GREATLY appreciated as all of my family's vacation videos are stuck in this camcorder purgatory nightmare. Thanks!

Are the MTS files by themselves on the card, or are they part of a larger file structure?

iMovie won't recognise the MTS files but it should recognise the complete file structure. The only work around that I can think of is to use this:
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/39800/rewrapavchd

It changes the MTS container to m4v without any conversion, so there is no loss of quality. You'll also need Perian, for which there is a link on the above page.

Thank you so much!! I'll check it out now and try it out. The .MTS files are part of a larger file structure. They are in a folder that's within another folder. That's what you mean, right? I'll try and see if iMovie will recognize the entire file first and then try the work around. Thanks again!

K iMovie doesn't recognize that there are any movies in the file structure. :( Going to try the rewrap thing. Thank you!
