So i tried installing my new 160 gb hard drive. When installing the new OS it asks me where I want to install the OS but there is not HD recognized for me to choose. I am thinking it is because this harddrive I have does not have the 4 pins in the area i circled. I have no idea what to do. Id appreciate any advice.

Have you formatted the drive with Disk Utility yet?

It almost certainly has nothing to do with the jumpers.

You have to have it installed in your computer. Then you boot from your install disk and run Disk Utility from there.

Best to get the instructions, preferably before forging ahead with hardware upgrades. We have covered this here on MR several times, a Search is a good place to start.

    Put the drive back in
Boot from the OSX CD that came with the machine
Go to the menu at the top that says "Installer" or "Utilites" and run Disk Utility.
It should recognize the drive and offer to PArtition or Erase it.
    Choose Mac OS Extended

It won't show up if you run through the installer, you have to use the menus or it won't work.
