can't sync contacts data inconsistent error

    Everytime I try to sync contacts to my MBP or the PC I get this error that contacts can not be synced because of inconsistent data. It will push the contacts to my iPhone and touch but not to the mac or PC.

    I have tried the reset data to replace contacts on the computers but I still get this error. Thought it might be a glitch so waited till this morning and same thing happening again. All my contacts have disappeared from the address app on my mac. I have tried syncing contacts from my v1 iPhone but it just deletes them instead of sending them to the address book.

    Anyone any ideas please ????

    I've got the same problem. Contacts are fine, but my calenders won't sync at all!!
    I too get the same error - can't sync because of data inconsistent.
    Any help would be appreciated

    I've got this issue aswell, my calendar doesn't sync with my macbook air nor my pc (same error message). I've tried resetting everything, doesn't help. It does sync correct with the iPhone.

    Is there any way to reset the entire MobileMe calendar? (the version in the cloud)

    Same thing here with calendars on the Mac, tried both resetting and unregister/re-register computer.

    In the past I've found that the key is to unregister and when prompted, delete the sync data from the server. However getting that prompt to come up seems a bit hit-and-miss, I can't get it to appear at all right now.

    Don't know how people are supposed to rely on this thing, considering that Apple are claiming that it's all up and working as intended.

    I have to say, making sure your local copy is correct is easy enough at this point (I had to re-delete something I'd deleted on the online version), but wouldn't be much good for anyone with large volumes of data. "Sorry I'm an hour late to the meeting, I'd altered it in my diary but the changes got lost when it tried to sync..."

    I sorted it for me. I deleted all contacts on the cloud and in my address book. I went into time machine restored my address book.
    Went to advanced in mm preferences did a reset sync data to the cloud for my contacts. It has worked no problem since

    A cautionary tale from my experiences:

    Running XP SP3, contacts from a Nokia on a SIM card, contacts on Yahoo, Gmail, and Exchange.

    I get the nokia, import the sim card contacts. Sync those to mobileme through the general settings for contacts. Then i manually add the rest, as i wanted to add the birthdays etc, to get 1 up to date address book on Mobileme, and then sync down to Outlook Express/Yahoo etc, to then export them as a collection for backup (there being no way to backup contacts other than one by one on MobileMe currently, aside from syncing).

    Get 300 contacts set up, syncing ok with iPhone. Delete contacts on Yahoo, gmail etc so I have a clean slate, and i don't have any possibility of duplicates occurring.

    Then inconsistent data error strikes. 4 reps later

    (the apple.com site for apple.com/support/mobileme has chat support on central time, don't think the UK site has it as much/ just email support, which gives you generic advice replies).

    3 hours waiting, 2 hours with the different reps. No joy. Just pointing to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1681

    If you have backups of data, that'll do. But if you don't, if your data is solely on MobileMe, you can be slightly screwed...

    There are some threads on the apple.com forums, with more longwinded methods (new user accounts for windows, deleting the whole contact book, cache, etc, removing iTunes altogether and refreshing library etc). But they're progeessively more extreme.

    The error it seems for "inconsistent data" is a wooly one. No word from the online reps as to what exactly it means. Having looked at where the iPhone's / mobile me's stores it's data, when looking at the format of an Outlook contact, I can see why! (It doesn't really stress the difference between Main, Work etc, but it means something in Outlook - the contact details from a MobileMe vcf are all over the place when compared to an Outlook inputted vcf.

    Same problem...

    It appears that Outlook 2003 is completely broken. I have not heard of anyone using OL2003 successfully. Anecdotal evidence (in this forum and my own personal experience) suggests that OL2003 doesn't work at all. Period. It will pretend to work (at best) but often return the very error you describe. The error will go away, but you will never be able to update cloud calendar or contacts from a PC.

    I learned something new. Apparently certain application will not work if your hard drive is formated as "Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive)." I purchased the LoJack for laptops software and I was unable to install it. After speaking to one of the techs from Absolute software he suggested that I check to see if my drive was formated as "Case Sensitive." See below:


    -********* Click Go
    -********* Click Utilities
    -********* Click Disk Utility
    -********* Select the Mac hard drive
    -********* Select to view information about the partition
    -********* Under "Format", it will show either "Mac OS Extended (Case
    Sensitive…)" or "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"

    I backed up my important data and reformatted my drive as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" and the LoJack software installation worked. I noticed that when I went to perform a sync of my contacts with mobile me it worked on the first try without any errors. I hope this helps.

    whew, sure glad i saw this!

    Thank you for sharing that! I was reformatting for an OS install, and was about to format Case-Sensitive. Figured i might install some unix source code someday that would need to distinguish between Include.h and include.h

    But if it's gonna hose some of my applications, then forget it. I'll stick with a plain old journaled FS

    P.S. will also fixed problems with Blackberry sync.
