Recently, whenever I try to access my emails via gmail Safari tries to download a file rather than view the webpage. It automatically downloads files starting with "mail" and then "mail-1", "mail-2", "mail-3" etc.

Interestingly enough, this only happens in one of the profiles on my Mac so it must be one of my Safari settings, I just don't know which one.

Do you have something "turned off". Maybe javascript?

I've been having the same problem at work, but only on the two macs in my room at work. (the rest work fine). Javascript, cookies, etc, are all enabled. weird.

I was having exactly the same problem with Gmail & Safari on my ibook earlier today. I emptied the cache in Safari and my ibook is fine with Gmail now. Try and see if this works for you too.
