A number of new CarPlay-enabled vehicles are making their North American debuts ahead of the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show this week, including models from Audi, Kia, and Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis.

Audi introduced a trio of CarPlay vehicles, including the all-new 2018 A5 and S5 cars and Q5 SUV. Audi's standard smartphone interface provides CarPlay and Android Auto integration via USB connection. The vehicles will arrive at U.S. dealerships in spring 2017. Pricing has yet to be announced.

Kia's latest CarPlay vehicle is the 2017 Soul Exclaim, its all-new five-door crossover with a 201-horsepower turbocharged engine. CarPlay and Android Auto come standard with the vehicle's UVO3 infotainment system. The non-turbo 2017 Kia Soul also features CarPlay support. Pricing and availability was not disclosed.

Genesis, which Hyundai spun into a standalone luxury car brand in 2015, followed suit with the introduction of its all-new 2018 Genesis G80 3.3T Sport trim with CarPlay and Android Auto integration via USB connection. The luxury sedan, available spring 2017, is equipped with a 9.2-inch touchscreen navigation system.

This article will be updated to reflect other new CarPlay vehicles as they are announced at the auto show over the next few days.

Update: The 2017 Jeep Compass and 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio also debuted with CarPlay support.

I really wish Audi would sell a module to incorporate CarPlay into older models with their MMI system. Since Audi no longer imports Avants, I plan on holding onto my A6 for a while longer. Sadly the price jacked A4 based Allroad is just too small for my gear, and I (essentially) detest SUVs / crossovers no matter what the brand.

Nice to see the system expanding to more cars though, and the integration / UI appears to be more polished.

Imagine when Apple finally do release a car. The tyres won't be replaceable on their own, they will be glued to the wheels and the wheels will have identity chips mated with the headlights so you can't change tyres without also changing headlights.

Naturally you will require a dongle to fuel up, it won't be compatible with any industry standard, legacy, systems.

It's ... it's not even 2017, guys. Car model "years" are already bad enough. Why is a car shown in 2016 and expected to go on sale in 2017 allowed to be marketed as a 2018 model?

Do you want another 64 1/2 Mustang?

Separately... I continue to be shocked at Toyota's lack of willingness to join in... Entune sucks. So what, I can see how my hybrid engine is working and the battery level on screen... everything else requires my phone to feed the apps, so let my phone feed the UI too...

And it will be about 1/4 inch thick.

All of which will be sold as "bold" "courage".

We got a 2016 Ford Flex in March ('16) and are still waiting on the CarPlay upgrade for it. Would've done a Toyota or Lexus if they had CarPlay.

We are now trading in our 2010 Lexus with about 98k miles on it for...not a Ford since still waiting for it on the Flex, but a 2017 Mercedes GLS 450 with CarPlay.

I recently rented a car that had carplay. I connected to the car with usb to charge my phone and nothing I did (including constantly selecting "forget this car" prevented me from using carplay).

I had google maps going, but wanted to listen to fm radio. Everytime Google Maps had something to say, the radio stopped and whatever music is on my iPhone started to play with the Google Maps talking on top of that. Then it wouldn't switch back to FM.

It was a terrible system.

I recently had to rent a vehicle and got a 2016 Suburban with carplay. I was extremely disappointed. From the constant crashing to the controls, it was a mess. When in navigation if a passenger needed to check something, it exits out of nav. If a passenger wanted to check a text message, it would automatically try to read it over the speakers and stop my music or audiobook. I loved having an audible app on the screen, but they still have a long way to go on the interface.

My 2016 Volkswagen Golf has CarPlay and it's ok. It's still got some bugs that Apple hasn't bothered to fix yet, but it's decent. It's a nice way to avoid paying LOTS extra for built-in navigation, which I still don't know how they justify the cost of those. Audi and Volkswagen got a lot of flack for their continued, stubborn use of their MDI interface, but they've finally replaced it with standard USB.

CarPlay still requires USB connection? Thought it was going wireless.
Wired carplay is great for long drives, but sucks balls when you're running a bunch of errands and getting in and out of the car frequently.

For all it's faults, the Toyota Entune setup works SO much better in that regard. Particularly if you're setup to do wireless charging.

Oh, that's right, cause Genesis is a brand now.... (instead of a band like they used to be)
[doublepost=1479312878][/doublepost]I'm really glad I "got over" having to have CarPlay in my next vehicle. Toyota has denounced CarPlay in favor of their Entune and as such, I said I'd not be buying a Toyota again. Glad I changed my mind on that!

Looking forward to the new Mazda CX5 (I'm a middle-aged dad...sorry) at the car show. Sadly, I already know there will be no Car Play available.

I'm kind of giving up hope on Mazda even with all the rumors swirling, don't know why it's taking so long.

Yes. That fits my experience too. It's like carplay was designed for only a single person driving alone.

Really like the new CX-5.... Wish there were other engine options besides the 4 banger that's in literally everything they make.
