i just got my macbook TODAY, and while I was installing world of warcraft, i picked up the macbook, to bring it to the sofa. while i was picking it up, i tilted it a bit (maybe 40 degrees?), and the CD started spinning (or at least sounded like it) like a crazy person, and i thought the computer was going to explode (it sounded like that).

everything seemed ok though, until I inserted another CD. the macbook now makes a cracking sound (3 cracking sounds actually), and if you hold it you can feel the "cracks" below the cd-rom.

I don't remember how this sounded before I picked the macbook up, so I can't really say if this is normal or not. that's why I'm asking you guys, is this normal? should I take it to the apple store? I can't afford to "lose" my computer for even 1 day since I'm in school and use my computer every day for school work.

The only noise my MacBook's CD drive makes other than the obvious 'whirring' sound is the sound it makes just after turning the MacBook on, and after inserting a CD. Turn your MacBook off, then back on, is the noise the CD drive makes after turning it on teh noise you refer to as 'cracking'?

If so, I believe this is normal.

when you put a cd in the gearingi n side makes some clicking sounds as it seats the CD. It uses a motor to pull the cd in and put it on the spindal. As your used to puting it on to a try I thought the same thing that there was somthing wrong.
