What would give me the best listening from my HD through my sound system (TEAC at the moment) and future proof as much as possible against any file type changes.

I have tried to search for this in past posts but to no avail (prob. my fault).

Apple Lossless or AIFF seem to be the choice to make. Music is mainly classical. I shall start with Wagner.

I cannot afford upgrades just for this project, so practical answers rather than esoteric theories please.

Thank you

Regards

Sharkey

Go with ALAC since it will save up to 50% space over AIFF. You can easily convert to any other lossless format like AIFF, WAV or FLAC at anytime or encode to any lossy format like AAC or MP3 too.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I am assuming ALAC is what I call Apple Lossless??? (sorry if that is dim of me)

Why the headphone amp? Is it for monitoring? I rarely listen to music on headphones - just travelling with classic iPod.
