So, Hezbollah, Lebanon, and Israel have coem to an agreement of a cease fire, which doesn't go into effect until Monday. However, this news: linky shows that both sides are pummeling each other as much as they can before they both cease fire.

How long do you guys think the cease fire will last? I'm betting 9 days.

watching the local news right now, they indicated there's now doubt the ceasefire will even take place. the lebanese cabinet has postponed its meeting; not certain about the israeli cabinet, i was only half paying attention.

Hopefully forever, but it'd probably last less than a day.

I don't believe that the peace will last long. It's going to blow wide open again in a day, a week, a month, or a year later. The underlying problems in that region have yet to be addressed.

Let's not kid ourselves: it hasn't even started. Lebanon is undergoing its worst attacks yet as I type.

All parties have accepted the ceasefire to take place a 5:00 am GMT and the Israelis are trying to take as much territory as they can up to that point. The Israeli government is trying desperately to show they have accomplished something militarily in this war. The real test will come when Lebanese troops arrive and the IDF is supposed to withdrawal. If the IDF will really leave south Lebanon and not look to use every confrontation with Hezbollah as an excuse to conduct more operations, there is a chance this ceasefire might hold. We shall see.

Seems kinda odd to arbitrarily pick some time and date to stop killing each other. And in the mean time, continue to kill each other. What, do they have to prepare to be peaceful for a few days or hours (or minutes)? Wouldn't want to accidentally stop the killing too soon.

I have hopes, but I'm prepared for them to be dashed.

It will go something like this:

1-The cease fire may last a day or so.
2-Some rogue Hezbola fighter will launch another rocket into Israel.
3-Israel will restrain itself and demand it does not happen again.
4-Another day or two will go by and another rocket will be launched into Israel.
5-Israel will retaliate with some precision targeting on Hezbola.
6-Hezbola will declare that Isreal has broken the cease fire.
7-War will break out again and the Arab world will blame Israel.

The cycle will continue on and on.....

Aw come on, it's just a few bad apples that don't obey the laws. Couldn't go higher up the chain of command than that, could it? :p

I'm really finding htis funny that both sides are calling this cease fire a victory. I don't see who's the victor here? Lebanon is in ruins and now the world is even more pissed off at Israel. Not much to celebrate.
