I changed my name by the house icon, and everything erased, anyway to get all that stuff back??
Ahhh, yea you are not really supposed to do that. I causes a LOT of problems as far as that goes. I'm very surprised that OS X allows you do do such a damaging this so freely. Anyway, to fix it, you should just be able to change the Home folder's name back to the original name. Post back and tell us if this works. If it doesn't, I have another idea.
Just to make it clear, your files are not missing or gone, they are simply not accessible to you as things are currently defined.
did the same thing a week ago. Of course I didnt mean to but it happened. It sucked as I lost half of my music and all of my documents. Thank god I did not need them. But yeah, Apple should really not allow people to do that.
On getting the stuff back:
Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4 or later: Return to default desktop, apparent "loss" of home directory at Apple. It also links to another article that tells the right way to change your user name.
Whew, thanks guys...youre life savers!!
Has anyone started making a Guide for how to fix this? It seems to happen often enough to warrant one. I would do it myself but I have never made a guide and don't have much time to do the proper research.
