As most Chimera users (especially the high postcount ones) probably know, one of the most annoying parts of Chimera is its lousy performance when typing into html text fields (although it's improved quite a bit. It actually feels pretty normal writing this post). If you want this fixed, here's the bug to vote for: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=148098

Yeah Chimera crashes on a lot of porno sites . I still use it as my default browser. Apple should merge with chimera and make it even better :D

when I started using Chimera I thought it was great, but I uninstalled it the other day because it would crash after two seconds, and I tried installing the nightly builds and reinstalling the last stable build too, all to no avail.
when a new version is released Ill be sure to give it another try though.

To me, it sounds like a preference file corruption.

First try deleting the following file (~ means your home directory)...

    ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.navigator.plist

If that doesn't work, try deleting the following files and directories (note that it will lose all of your Mozilla prefs, cache, history, and bookmarks)...

    ~/Library/Mozilla
    ~/Library/Preferences/Mozilla Registry
    ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.Mozilla.plist

I have little doubt that this will clear up your problem.

everybody needs to keep in mind that chimera is still at .5 (hopefully .6 soon) so there are still plenty of problems. the developers are doing a hell of a job with this project but it is still in development so i'm not going to bother them with any bug reports until it is at version 1.0 because the very meaning of beta is that it is untested and still has bugs.

Actually, they want to hear bug reports coming in so they know what is important to work on next. I haven't noticed any problems with text fields, however. It feels just like I'm typing in AppleWorks or TextEdit, not like clunky M$ Word or Internet Explorer. I love it, and the only thing wrong with Chimera at the moment is lack of features.

They definitely like hearing bug reports. You can submit them via bugzilla and I've found the developers to be very receptive.

OK, who knows how to fix it so Chimera will stay as your default browser in 10.2.1?

System Prefs keeps resetting to IE...bleh...

I've trashed prefs and tried nightlies and the "official" release...nada.

I've heard people here having problems with chimera
after they installed real audio player 2.
    There's a simple solution, however i forgot.
Try to do a search for chimera or real audio 2
here at MacRumors and you should come
    across the fix.

Or, I think you can go to real audio and
download an update that fixes the problem....
this is all assuming that you have real audio
    installed.

summary: chimera and real audio just had some
    compatibilty issues. solutions exist :p

I dunno man, all I do is select Navigator in the menu (kinda nice OS X recognizes it as a browser automatically).. and it stays there...

    hmm...

I would recommend backing up the bookmark file, as it is one of the last things that get corruptet anyway.

It stays put on my work machine...but not on my TiBook.

I'm gonna have to do more preference hunting I guess...

i have found that the best way to fix this problem for good is to trash IE.

Yes, I know that. You'll notice I was asking how to keep it as the default browser.

It was a bug in an earlier version of OS X or Chimera (I forget which) that it wouldn't stay set, ie. when you close System Prefs and then reopen it, the setting is reset to IE.
