I have looked into upping my RAM and I have read many threads concerning the process, but I'm simply not confident enough with my knowledge to just purchase RAM and install it without being reassured first. I have the 512mb it came with, and would like either 768mb or 1gb. I get the idea I will be taking out 256mb and replacing it, so a 512mb stick will put me at 768m. So will either of top two listed on this page be good options to get me to 768mb total? Macsales.net

If I were to want to get to 1gb, what stick would I need?

Lastly, I hear the install is simple, so I gather that someone who has never cracked open a 'book can do this?

    Thanks

I've done it plenty on Dell's, it really isn't that difficult. I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find some pics of a PB with its case/keyboard open. As far as getting to 1GB, I don't think you can. Since you've got 2x256, you either go to 768mb or 1.25gb. I've been looking into RAM upgrades for my new iMac and I've heard good things about OWC.

    Yep they would work.
Go with the 1GB ram chip to have 1.25GB total. You are already pulling a stick out now, I doubt you'll want to do it again in a year when 768 won't be that much ram.
Apple's Do it yourself parts and service is always handy for printing off and having next to you throughout an upgrade.. Unless it's really simple -this could well be. :)

Thanks for the info. I don't want to spend the $140+ on a 1GB stick right now, so maybe I'll wait a couple months until I can spend that, rather than buying a 512mb stick now.

You'll need a #0 phillips screwdriver to remove the access plate
