    Anyone else see "Chuck" tonight?

Chuck: Do we carry any Rush CD's?
Morgan: No, but not to worry buddy! I have every Rush track on my Zune.
Chuck: Wait, you have a Zune!?
Morgan: Pfft! No, I'll go get my iPod.

I got a big kick out of it. I'm hoping somebody puts it up on YouTube or something, lol. Maybe an excerpt clip on Hulu.

The writers on that show capture nerd culture perfectly. Did anyone else notice the music from the 1980's Transformers Movie in there? Hahaha. Genius.

"You've got the touch" by Stan Bush is my ring tone. Absolutely classic theme song.

No way Stephen Colbert's was better when he was talking about how the iPhone has a kill switch-"I knew I should have got a Zune, it can't kill me... or do anything else"

I still think this one is harsher. I don't see what's up with him bashing it though. He said he owns one:confused:

Has anyone actually seen a Zune on any tv show? I know I've seen plenty of iPods and iPhones, but now that I think about it I've never seen anyone use a Zune in a show (oh and I point out to my wife every time I see a MB/MBP/iMac on a show)

The only time I've seen a Zune on TV is for circuit city ads and a Burger King ad a while ago. Microsoft doesn't so much product placement huh?

Also, I'm the same way about the pointing out stuff with my girlfriend. She just replies "yer such a nerd" :p

I know you were just paraphrasing, but here is exactly what they said.

Chuck “Morgan, hey, uh, buddy do we carry any rush cds in the store?”
Morgan “No need I got’em all on my Zune”
    Chuck “You have a Zune?”
Morgan “Are you kidding me, no, no, I’ll grab my iPod”

SLightly off topic, but on the topic of the Zune..

It's that time of year again.. the holidays approach and the images of high Zune sales dance in the heads of Microsoft Execs. According to the unscientific data from Amazon. Of the top 25 "Bestsellers":

    21 are iPods - [Representing: 84%]
    3 are SanDisk(#s 10, 17, 24) - [Representing: 12%]
    1 is Zune (#13) - [Representing: 4%]

As far as I am concerned, it's not the iPod killer that it was touted to be. Now, the XBox franchise certainly is successful, perhaps following a similar market strategy (though Sony really helped that along with a series of blunders) that is now being used for the Zune. I'm not so sure it's going to work for the Zune.

Extrapolating a bit further with the top 50 "Bestsellers":
    32 are iPods - [Representing: 64%]
    10 are SanDisk(#s 10, 17, 24, 29, 32, 40, 41, 44, 48, 49) - [Representing: 20%]
    3 is Creative Zen (# 35, 43, 46) - [Representing: 6%]
    2 is Pro Ebiz (# 26, 37) - [Representing: 4%]
    2 is Coby (# 34, 47) - [Representing: 4%]
    1 is Zune (#13) - [Representing: 2%]

Of course, this is weighted very heavily in the iPod direction because there are so many versions offered. And of course, this doesn't tell us how many units were sold. But it's still fairly telling (IMO) at how dismal the Zune's market performance is. If I were an exec at Microsoft, I'd be talking to SanDisk about acquiring their product line.

Chuck is one of the most fun shows on TV!

I laffed so loud at that Zune-zinger, I had to back it up to catch the next dialogue that I missed!

I'm glad I found this on the forum - I started laughing hard at that exchange on Chuck last night, which then meant I had to explain it to my carpenter/non-geek SO (which is funny in itself, a woman geek having to explain it to a guy).

thanks for the clip - I was looking for one to send to a friend.

Guess this is more popular than I thought, post this clip in a post on my blog and just crushed my server :(

Ah, macsurfer.com and daringfireball.net is enough to slow down any small blog site eh?

I have owned several generations of IPods and decided to give the second generations Zune's a try. I think there great to be honest with you. And they keep getting better with every new firmware update. Now I'm sure I'm going to catch hell from all of you. But just because I use a Mac doesn't make me a M$ hater. Have any of you ever really uses a Zune? Honestly?

I haven't, but never really wanted to just b/c it looks clunky. Plus having an iPhone, iPod 80GB Video (or classic), shuffle, and iTunes makes it easier to stick with it anyway.

Funny that I hated apple just 12 months ago or so and now I'm about to buy a macbook!!! WTF :p

I agree the first gen Zune's where large and chunky. And that's part of the reason I didn't buy one. Plus I seldom ever buy first gen tech. But the second gen Zune's are smaller and slimmer.
I too am a tech junky. I have both a Mac and PC.

    Conan “Yes, yes we do”
Al Qaeda “Oh they’re my favorite, I’ve got all their albums on my Zune”
    Conan “You have a Zune?”
Al Qaeda “Yes, iPods are the devil’s MP3 player…Zuuuuuuuuune (gunfire)”

I have a high res Hulu clip and a non hulu (for those outside the US to view) posted

I don't normally watch Chuck live but saw that and was glad that I watched it that night. The Zune isn't a bad piece of equipment (I have used it) but it feels to me like it's one of those things that if Ipods weren't around then these would be great, but it feels just a little short of the competition.
