So what time are you guys planning on getting there? It's tough to judge if there will be more people than last year (because it's cheaper) or less (because of people who won't re-buy, and it's not a totally new item).

What about an AT&T store around Cinci instead?

I didn't camp out for the last one in Cincinnati, because by Friday, I had decided not to buy an iPhone. I was kinda bummed about it on Saturday morning, and my wife told me that she'd pay half of a 8GB for an early birthday present (score!). So Saturday morning, I called AT&T in Florence, KY (my closest store), and they were fresh out. I called Apple Store in Kenwood, guy told me that they have them. I asked how many, and he assured me that they had tons. So Saturday around noon I went to Kenwood, walked right in and paid for my iPhone. My wife and her sister were playing with a demo as I was paying for mine, and they both decided to buy iPhones right then and there.

I still haven't made up my mind on if I want to upgrade yet or not. I was really really hoping for a 32GB version, and I didn't think that the 3G and GPS would make much of a difference for me, but yesterday, driving around northern KY looking around at houses for sale, navigating maps on EDGE was a bitch, plus the cell triangulation didn't help much. Ok, maybe you will see me on the 11th.

If it's like the last launch, the Apple store will get at least 10x as many phones as the AT&T locations.

    AT&T customer loyalty

I think it's a crock of BS that CURRENT customers can't take advantage of the subsidy. I signed up in January with AT&T specifically anticipating the new iPhone this summer, as the contract with my previous carrier had lapsed.

It seems like the ONLY group of people going to be excluded from taking advantage of the offer are current subscribers that don't already own an iPhone. I have no problem with extending / re-upping my two-year contract but I'm going to feel mighty salty toward ATT if this ends up being their final decision. I wonder if it would be worth it to them to generate such animosity and negative word-of-mouth from myself and others in my situation.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled forum thread.

Big bump for the Nati. I think I am going to upgrade, but I'll wait until Saturday morning to go demo one at the apple store.

ok, I guess the question is... if it launches at 8am at the Apple Store (which I dont see how it couldnt). How would the lining up work at the towne center. I doubt theyd let us into the mall before it opens, and there isnt really a place to wait outside. ideas?

Some malls are open early for workers/powerwalkers, so it might be open before 8. I'm not sure.

if they dont open for mallwalkers, then there could be a tiny problem here..

    Mall Hours
    Monday-Saturday: 10:00am-9:00pm
    Sunday: 12:00pm-6:00pm
Department store & restaurant hours may vary.

I just called the Kenwood store, and an employee told me that they haven't received any kind of information on opening early, so as far as he knows, they won't open until 10AM. He said to feel free to keep calling throughout the week to see if anything changes though.

hopefully by the 6th or 7th everything will be cleared up. i have t-mobile (contract just ended last month) and i have yet to see a definite statement that the apple store employees will have the ability/know how to port over new customers to ATT. have i missed anything, is anyone certain (not just assuming) that this will be an option?

my situation seems better suited to go to an ATT store. there is an ATT kiosk in the mall but i haven't checked when they open (they probably don't know anymore than than the apple employees right now anyway).

Well, since AT&T has stated that for non-enterprise customers, there's no difference in which store you go to, you should be fine at the Apple Store. I'm sure they'll have at least a few AT&T reps at each Apple Store.

First, today is the 6th. Now when working at CompUSA, when they rolled out new policies or announcements that they wanted to make company wide, we always did it after the store closed on Sundays, then had our entire staff stay or come in for the announcement. So Kenwood should start their meeting probably around 7pm since the store closes at 6pm today. I guess we'll start to get leaks from employees shortly after then.

Second, don't be surprise if you can stay in the mall all night long, waiting in line at the apple store. The mall doesn't close until late at night, like around 1am since the cinema's last movies start after 10pm. They also open earlier like previously suggested for powershoppers and bored teenagers like in the movie Mallrats. This leaves roughly a 6-7hour gap. Now a former Apple employee told me that in events like this Apple will pay for the mall security to stay for that gap and allow people to wait outside the store in a line inside the mall. Makes sense, there will be a line, and you can't have everyone waiting outside at multiple entrances...unless you designate one that will open first and then give people line order cards and let them into the store mall first.

Looks like the Apple Store will be open at 8AM. I hope they have some 16GB black ones left on Saturday.

A friend was just there tonight, and Kenwood will not allow lines. Now if people can stand outside that would be interesting, and where do you do it? Do they open a designated door first?

I'm guessing the closest door is the one from the middle level of the parking garage that goes in by the sonystyle store. I thought they had lines at the last iPhone launch, so why wouldn't they at this one? With all this talk of low stock, I'm seriously thinking about going into work late for this.

I went into the store today. Talked to a Genius rep who was there for the iphone release last year. Said he doesn't remember if they sold out, but he also didn't have the feeling that they did. In addition, he said that people tried to line up in front of the store, but security eventually escorted them out and they hung around outside and the line went down for a while.

Yeah, I don't think they sold out last year. I went in there on Saturday morning and got mine, and they said they had plenty then. I'm heading up there on Saturday anyway, so I'll just wait until then. I can't drive my KY state work vehicle into OH anyway, and I really don't feel like taking my car into work on Friday.

they hung out in front of the store, as proven by footage from the news and pictures from ars technica- http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2007/06/29/ars-in-line-for-the-iphone-in-cincinnati

I see, except they obviously weren't allowed in the store until the doors were open for the morning, and ultimately the line started at the beginning of the work day. And yes, they were shooed away until a certain time.

This time is different and I wonder how they will do a line since the product is being sold at 8am not 6pm.
