I tried to access CNN's video feeds today, only to get an error message saying that media player 9 or higher was not found. They have a new Microsoft only format starting today. No longer is realplayer or quicktime supported.

I would suggest all mac users change the channel, until this "oversight" is corrected.

They may not be multi-company friendly, but I don't see how this makes them not Mac friendly...WMP9 for Mac works just fine.

I tried to access the videos also today. Very dissapointing, especially considering that they use Apple PowerMacs with Cinema Displays for several of their segments dealing with blogs.

Im watching a news update in Safari with the Windows Media Player (9.0.0) plugin as I type this. Just ignore the warning about compatability. It totally works.

WMP9 is awful! It doesn't fully support many codecs including the one CNN is using to stream their video. I don't know how many times I've tried to view something in WMP9 for Mac and gotten codec errors.

Edit: I guess it works for some people, however it still refuses to stream on either of my Macs. It works fine on my XP box though.

I really don't understand what all the antipathy for Real or WMP is about. Both of them work just peachy for me. They are much less annoying or intrusive than they are on Windows. I have Real, WMP9, Quicktime and VLC. I only really have VLC because it can draw streams from dvarchive (and almost nothing else can). None of them do anything nasty to my Mac. I had a little trouble upgrading Real once, in Panther, but the first time I got Real, I had no issues, and putting Real on Tiger posed no issues.

About 10 years ago I emailed CNN about bringing Real Audio files into their website. Surprisingly, I got an email back from the webmaster and they said they were looking into it. Of course, now, I don't think you'll even get through.

    WMV blech!

I'm starting to hate Windows Media more than Windows.

worked fine on a G5 at work but at home on my dual 800 the video was more than a little choppy and i have a pretty good dsl line, so maybe its just the codec thing going on.

I just tried it, and couldn't get it to play (QuickTime 7.0.1 and WMV component 1.0.1).

    re-install WMP

I struggled with this for a while before just trying to reinstall the windows player. Once I did that, then I had the option to "continue to video" others had mentioned. It worked well for me after that.
