I'm very happy to see Apple with a positive outlook for its future. iTunes and the iTunes Music Store will be a huge help for propelling Apple forward. I have to wonder - will sales of iPods ever exceed that of Macs? That seems to be the trend. I foresee Apple's download count on iTMS reaching more milestones quickly - 30 million, 50 million, 100 million by the end of 2004 - 200 million and 500 million by the end of 2005. I don't use the iTMS myself, but I think it will be a huge success for Apple, far bigger than they ever anticipated. I also see Apple continuing to sell Macs, but becoming far less dependent on Mac sales. My projection for Apple's profit distribution in 2005 - 2006: 40% Mac Hardware, 15% Mac Software, 5% Windows Software, 40% iPod and other hardware.

I look forward to seeing the iTunes download results as a result of the campaign.

Interesting point of view. Apple will indeed have the power of all those costumers when it renegotiates the deals with the record labels.

Also, for anyone who things iPod/iTunes success hurts the Mac platform in some way, or will make Apple "forget" the Mac (which is still by far the biggest part of their income)... read these stories of Windows users who bought iPods and then went Mac!

The effect of getting iPod/iTunes into Windows users' hands is not always immediate. But down the road, when they need a new computer, Mac will seem a little less easy to ignore as an option. Maybe their next computer in a couple of years will be a Mac... or if not, maybe the one after that...

In addition, ANY Apple mindshare as a technology leader is good for the Mac. Many people now think, "Macs... I know they exist... but nobody uses them... I don't know anything about them... my friends hate Apple... Windows must be better." This can become: "Macs.... I wonder if Apple makes good computers, since they are on top with iPod and iTunes? Everything's Apple-this and Apple-that these days... May as well take a look..."

The article brings up a good point. IIRC the labels only signed a one year contract w/Apple for iTMS. The tables have completely turned between Apple and the labels. I just hope Jobs has enough will power to resist saying, "I told you so." ;)
