    Hi
I've just installed PHP 5.2.4 and it runs fine in Apache. However when I run it from the command line there is a long delay of at least 20 seconds before anything happens, even with something as simple as php -v.

I was wondering if anyone on this forum has a similar experience or perhaps have an idea what might be wrong. I'm running it on a Powerbook 1.5GHz by the way.

    thanks

    Solved!

I finally worked out what was wrong, I had a bad hostname set in /etc/hostconfig. php was trying to resolve the hostname and the DNS server was failing after a (long) timeout.

So if anybody else is having problems with programs that seem ages to run, it might be your hostname!
