I downloaded the source for Flickr 1.3.4 beta (I do believe this version is still free) and I'm not sure how to compile it so I get a working file. I have gcc installed and I compile in Linux from time to time, but OS X compiling is alien to me.

    thanks in advance.

It depends on how the code comes. I can't be more specific since I don't have flickr code, but if it has a XCode project associated with it, the easiest thing is to load it into XCode. If it has a similar structure to most Linux open source, ./configure, make, and make install will work on OS X.
