Okay, currently I have a 20" iMac G5 RevA, which I play World of Warcraft on, and a Acer 1.5ghz notebook computer. I haven't really been too happy with my setup, I mean, the iMac's video is pathetic, but the screen is nice... The Acer notebook is usually pretty snappy, but it sucks for any windows based games which I have a few of. I'm trying to have as few computers as possible, but I do need 1 laptop and 1 desktop. I'm having difficulties deciding whether to be mac or windows, it feels weird having both at the same time. I choose the acer notebook because of the Mac-Intel thing making me nervous. What should I do, if anything at all. Should I sell one of the two, and get something?

I'm really lost, help me out guys!

It's usually easier to have both your desktop and laptop being the same platform. Don't worry about the Intel transition - any PowerPC based Mac you buy now will have new software available until 2010 or later.

From my experiences, I would recommend getting a 15" PowerBook. Then again, you are asking on a Mac site.

what do you do on your mac vs on your pc? i might recommend a pc desktop (homebuilt or bought) and a mac laptop. it'd probably be a lot cheaper (a great pc can be had for $1k with monitor, windows, everything) and then an ibook.

I agree with homerjward as I just sold my PM G5 and planning to build a super fast desktop PC once I settle down and get my own place.
But for now I can live with just a 12" iBook and a 20 inch Dell LCD... ;)

    I own a Toshiba Satellite with a 1.7GHz P4-M (Centrino), 512MB RAM, 5400RPM HD, etc.

I prefer the Mac. I haven't owned a Mac faster than 500MHz, but I much prefer it to any Windows computer. I have built many-a-Windows PC and worked on many more.

I would reccomend an iMac and an iBook/PowerBook to ya.

Well, it all sounds good, but I'm not sure if I would be willing to sell my imac 20" at such a loss... It really is a terrific machine,I just wish someone would offer me what it's worth...

The other issue is getting rid of my acer, everyone knows it's probably worth less than half what I paid for it a month after I bought it...

Keep the iMac. Try selling the Acer here or state that you want to trade it for an iBook. I don't see why would ever want to sell your iMac, unless you want a better one, of course!

How much you want for it :p

I just got a powerMac g5 for my desktop (w/ 2x17" monitors), and i use an older iBook G4 (800MHz) for my laptop, but i do have an older Dell laptop, just incase. I'd say Keep the iMac for a while, and try and sell the Acer, get a better laptop (15" Powerbook maybe? or a high end 12" pBook/iBook) then next year you'll still have a really nice laptop, and when the mactel switch starts, you can decide if you want a G5 desktop, or an intel desktop (be it windows or OS X)
    thats what i'd do...

    just stick with Mac

I have two powerbooks 1Ghz and 1.5Ghz, and a dual 1.8 Powermac, i wouldn't trade either of them for anything, and i always have my second powerbook for backup

Keep your iMac G5 and sell your PC laptop for a nice iBook G4 or PowerBook G4. 2 Macs are better than one! :)

Well your in a tuff spot. I would say that if you are a big computer gamer then you should always have a PC and if your a PC gamer a PC desktop is better than a PC Laptop.

Personally if you have to do something about your current situation for gaming purposes I would reccomend selling both your Imac and mini and get a PC. The resale on macs are pretty good and between the two you should be able to buy a decent gaming pc or even a new 17 inch Imac (ATI x600 128mb might be enough to satisfy your gaming needs and you can stay a mac user).

Also just curious what's the video card in your accer and Imac?

I have a PC desktop for games - there are more games for PC and games *usually* play better on PC.

I use my Mac laptop for everything else (and even some WarCraft III with my friends sometimes).

I love my setup and have no complaints about it other than I wish the PowerBooks were more powerful, but whatever, my new one is great so far.

Unfortunately, with the terrible resale value of pc notebooks, I'd only get around $700-$800 for the Acer, which means, I would owe $300 at least to get the LOW end ibook. I mean, that's a big jump, and it looks like it's more of a downgrade than anything...
