This as I enter the education field as a career. I believe it a high possbility, just like in my home state of Mississippi, that education is a low priority for most of our elected officials because their kids go to private schools. They know little or nothing of the public school system.

Glad they have their priorities straightedged. Bombs=High, Education=Low, Environment=Low, Health Care=Low

Well. With the education level going down, the Republican vote ratio will go up in about 10-15 years. We can't say they're not planning ahead. Good long term strategy. (Sarcasm intented of course)

    You people are all fools...

Don't you know that the "educated" generally don't join the military?
How else are we going to be able to fight the Wars of Terrorism in the future?!
    America Haters!

    Ha! Very good.

As a future teacher, it makes me a bit upset. Now the local gov't has to raise taxes, and my local districts income taxes will be higher. My county tax just went up too. Grrr.

That's the joke (and the ultimate righty downfall) about 'tax cuts cure all'. So many GOP folks have gotten themselves elected preaching the anti-tax message that when they wind up in office they have to raise everything but taxes, and some even have had to swallow tax increases to keep their state solvent. Unlike the feds, states can't run deficits.

So around here taxes are down but fees are up. Fines have been increased. Parks cost more to get into, permit fees are way up, and they're talking about a massive increase in cigarette taxes here in Ca. And all this with the level of services declining.

People love tax cuts, they don't like service reductions, or being told that their kid can't take the school bus because there's not enough money.

So look at the 'fiscally responsible' GOP. Borrow and spend is all they do. Tax cuts for the very well off, and crumbs for the rest of us. Tax cuts financed with borrowed money I might add. All while underfunding the government programs they don't like so they can point to them when they are failing and say 'See, look how awful government-run programs are. Let the private sector handle it'.

no the conundrum is that we build the best bombs in the world, but other countries students score better on math and science test than american students.
