connected both my MacBook and my friends iMac (both are intel C2D) to a television via a mac video adaptor. anyway, my query is, is there any way to have the Macbook/iMac screen off whilst the external display is being used? its irritating seeing the two things on at the same time, and also theres mot much point wasting the energy running the two screen when only one is needed....thoughts?

It depends on what you are doing. I don't have an iMac so I don't know about that, but the MacBook should work run with the screen closed. So if you need to use the keyboard/touchpad, you'll have to have another mouse and keyboard.
