Okay, so I am trying to transfer files from my windows computer over to my Mac, running 10.8.3.

The two computers are connected via a crossover ethernet cable.
I find the IP address of my Windows computer, and then go over to Finder on my mac, click go, click connect to server, and enter smb://100.000.000.0 ( just an example ) and then it tells me "There was a problem connecting to the server "100.000.000.0" Contact your system administrator for more information"

I have checked several times to make sure I was typing in the correct IP, no problem there, but STILL GETTING THE ERROR !!! ):

Can anyone help me solve this problem and connect to the server ?

I am trying to do it with both a windows 7 and windows 8 machine, ( two different computers ) and I get the same error for both 7 and 8.

I have read countless threads and still cannot find a solid fix.

    Help me please ):

I have had a chance to use the new 'Vista' (Windows 8) but with Windows 7 just make sure you DO NOT use the Microsoft Home Group to share with no Windows machine (7 or better by the way). It is best to use the Windows 7 'Advanced menu to share with OS X or Linux as explained in the blog post How to Share Windows 7 Files With OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) (i know this is about snow Leopard but the Windows 7 part still applies.
