I remembered reading not too long ago about someone who wanted to have their laptop so when the lid was closed and was put to sleep, it would not diconnect from the internet. I searched the forums but was unable to find this post. Could someone please tell me how i can do this so the internet will remain connnected when put to sleep so i can still download and recieve Adium messages.

    Thanks, Matt

No need to bump your thread. We'll get to it.

If you have an iBook, you'll need to hack it. I can't recommend this because the iBook disperses heat thought the keyboard. I think the hack it called Screen Spanning Doctor. Use at your own risk.

If you have a PowerBook, you can connect an external Monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and the power cable and you'll be able to use your computer while closed. The PBook is designed to work this way, so heat is not an issue.

Just to let you know my ibook (in sig) works fine when running in clamshell mode ( display closed, computer still on). Ive had it hooked up to a 17" LCD while I was working in imovie and while encoding a dvd in idvd. My ibook ran fine and using a temperature monitoring app I noticed that the temps stayed around 55 Celsius which is the same temperature it runs at with the display open. Also anyone who has opened a laptop that was designed to dissipate heat through the KB would know that the ibook wasint designed to dissipate heat through the KB.

It was. The iBook runs pretty cool as far as most laptops are concerned and I'm glad you've had good luck with clamshell mode but I strongly recommend people have the lid open when using an iBook all the same, especially if it's still in warranty. :)
