Hello, i am 16 years old and am looking into buying a 20" iMac. I have decided that i want one, and i have enough money to buy one. However there is a problem. i need to convince my parents that this computer is more than just the cool thing to have. they think that the only reason i want it is because its popular. which happens to be true but is not the reason why i am buying. i am tired of my PC and want a streamlined Mac experience. i am looking into doing some light to moderate movie, photo and music editing. So please if you have any ideas on how to convince them that this is not a waste of my money, and yes i am buying it with my own money, (i have saved for the past year), please post them. i need your help or i will be doomed to a PC forever! AAAHH! :( i plan to give them this list as proof, so please come up with a good deal of reasons.

One, take them to an Apple Store and show them the super stuff.

Or, if worse comes to worse, just go buy it and tell them to deal with it.

    Greetings :D !
Im just a few years older than you but I conviced my parents to throw in some cash for my MBP. The great thing about your situation is you don't need to tell lies because theres alot of solid reasons why you should be on a Mac.

Your interested in doing video editing/making! Macs are the best things to use for Computer Graphics. Tell them you need experience on a Mac because sooner or later you will be using a Mac. You also need to familiarize yourself with Mac keyboard shortcuts and master them to up your productivity.

Tell them the 20" Imac comes with a uber leet zuber dual side by side Intel Chip (Make it sound really nice! :p ).

Also something to point out is how good Imacs are pricewise, your saving tons of cash just by having the LCD screen built in.

If they still refuse, tell them that they just made LOADS of people mad on Macrumors.com!!!!

I don't know if this would work for you but whenever I want something and my parents don't like it I write a report about it to make them see my views on things. Also show them some online stuff about the iMac to kinda get them ready for later going to the Apple Store. Also you could have your computer teacher at school tell them/you about it to make your parents feel secure. I did all of these and I've had a shiny iMac G5 since Oct. 31 2004. :)

Seems like every other week someone wants us to prove to parents that they need a iMac or something. Can I suggest a new Macrumor's guide? mods?

Good god, when I got the money to buy my iBook when I was 16 or 17, I said "Mom, can I borrow your car so I can go to the Apple Store?" She handed me the keys and told me not to speed on the way home since I would be anxious to play with my new toy. No questions asked :D Whats with parents needing convincing...if they're buying it, that's one thing, but if it's your money, they should let you spend it how you want.

I get railed by my mom when I buy things. She got used to my uber cheap $700 PC's and then I tossed out $1400 for my iMac G5. I'm trying to avoid buying another one until 10.5 though. I'm holding out. It's just I've been guilted to save money as much as possible. My savings is huge and spending $30 hurts.
