When I plug the ipod in question to my macbook pro, itunes offers to format it for me. I click cancel and then click on the ipod icon to find whatever music is on it. Alas! It cannot list the music! There is about 20 gigs of music on this thing and I'd like to rescue it. I tried TinkerTool and after that for some reason when I connect the ipod, it flashes "do not disconnect" and switches off. I then proceed to revive it by clicking the "menu" button, and it flashes the message again before switching itself off.....Anyone has any ideas? This "designed by apple in california for baby boomers" system is giving me a headache.

thanks, I'll give it a shot.

Edit: my ipod plays whatever music is on it, and I can see the files under windows. Its not broken or damaged in any way. It just happens that due to some social reasons it is not viable to copy to windows first and then copy to my mac.
