    Why it is useful

I recently scanned 100,000 pages of documents for a client, then used OCR to convert them to PDF. Each PDF was from 1 to 500 pages long. I needed to create a table of contents that showed a list of all the PDFs, their place in the folder hierarchy, and their page numbers. The only application that I could find to count PDF pages in bulk was a Windows application that costs $80. Thus, I developed, and am now releasing as freeware, this Automator action that create just such a table of contents (though you would probably want to use an application such as Microsoft Excel to format the results).

As another example, you could also use it to build an index of your downloaded PDF books.
