You need Windows or virtualisation (crossover?)

Why would they? CS is very popular already and the latest macs can run it, what's the reason for porting it now? You might have to give Havok a ring too (though I think they ported the physics thing over to Mac... i forget).

True, but I believe the original poster's intent was to find out whether he could play CS without installing windows which crossover does perfectly (for CS at least).

Anyways aholden...WHERE ARE THOSE SOURCE pics you promised me!?

Actually, aholden12592, you are wrong. He is not using Windows. There is no form of Windows installation in WINE. It's emulating various Win32 APIs. There is a difference

thats what wine stands for, lol, i assume it 'replaces' api's not emulates, or something to that effect, but anyway, i hear it works with crossover pretty much better than anything else, (game wise)

That's a stupid name. Wine is not an emulator... right in the way that wine is a drink, but in this term what does the W actually mean in WINE?

I tried taking screenshots but I didn't really know how. I pressed F5 like it says in the game but I found no pictures

It's a recursive acronym, like LAME; LAME Ain't an MP3 Encoder.

So the W in WINE stands for WINE.

Ooh, I quite like the looks of WINE. I'm going to download it to play Counterstrike on my MacBook tonight I think.

One question though, being an emulator, will WINE somewhat cripple performace?

Hmm, just been on the WINE website, and I can't seem to find a Mac OSX download for it.

Could anybody enlighten me with how it's done?

    Thanks.

Hmm, on second thoughts, WINE looks far too complicated for me to use, I'll only frustrate myself getting it to work.

Suppose I'll just sit and hope BootCamp Supports Windows 98SE at somepoint, no way am I forking out $$$ on XPSP2 when I already purchases the upgrade version for my pc.

To run successfully, full speed with no flaws or anything - you need Bootcamp, which is Windows dualbooted on a Mac.

Otherwise no. If you have a PowerPC Mac then hell no.

Download crossover for Mac OS X then run it. Then download steam and get counterstrike. You'll be able to play counterstrike without windows installed now.

Do you have a macbook or macbook pro? If you have a macbook I reccomend playing Counterstrike 1.6 instead of the source version because of the on board GPU.
