I have a creaking MacBook - a Black Core Duo 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM, 80GB HD. When I open it and close it, you always hear a creaking noise and it's starting to piss me off! It's happened since day 1 ~ August 24th-ish.

In this thread, it says put some WD40 on an ear bud and "rub it in" and it fixed theres.

    What do they mean? :(

So are they saying to put WD40 on my iPod earbud and rub it on the MacBook's hinges? How? You can't get to the hinges without opening the MacBook unless your talking about putting the WD40 through the little crack which is extremely small?

Are they talking about the little foam thingys that can go on iPod earbuds?

Please help me if you have answers to this olution or have other solutions to fix this damn problem!

I just had the same problem. I took it to the apple store and they sent it in for repair. Had it back in 3 days, squeak free. Do you have apple care or warranty left?

I'd advise that you just do what I did then. Just make an appointment at your local apple store (or give apple a call if there isn't a store near you). They should fix it for you like they did for me. Of course you'll have to wait until after christmas though.

Take it to an authorized service provider, the hinge is too tight. It should not be an issue.
And I would not put WD-40 any where near my MacBook.

Man I have this problem as well...

So if it's to tight will they loosen it? Because if they loosen my screen it'll be falling all over the place... It practically already does fall all over the place...

What they did for mine was replace the display assembly (not the display) and the front bezel which surrounds the display. It works silently now as it should.

Yes it is. Feels slightly tighter actually. No more screeching though.

Yeah. I gave it to them late on the 17th (sunday) and had it back on the 20th (wednesday).

The screws weren't too tight, they were loose.

I tightened them & no help.
