Are there any applications that allow me to create themes for OS X? (Obviously there are, but does anyone know where to find them?)

I think this is what you are looking for . . .

    This should do the trick.

    ThemePark

    Hope this helps.

    ;)

themepark is really the only one that is worth using, from what i have heard, but honestly, i wouldn't even bother. that program is really advanced--i mean, for advanced users. a lot of it is basically undocumented. if i were you, i would just use other people's themes. i wanted to make a theme myself, but it's just rather complicated.

    surprising, maybe, till you see:

i don't think they are really endorsing it, just want to make that list of "mac OS X apps" bigger.

Has anyone heard if Panther has themes included? I think a lot of users would like to customize OS X more than Jaguar lets them.

the beta release surely does not in the least, which is really annoying because they changed the interface a lot and there are many users who like it the way it is much better. they probably will not natively support it, but there will be 3rd party theming programs, and other people will update their themes to work in panther and make new ones, and someone will make a jaguar theme for panther, no doubt...

i tried this on a machine at work a while ago and it was a real beast. it took about a week to get it going, and by then i had totally lost interest. i thought to myself "why in holy hell am i doing this?". it offers no benefit to me, other than showing it off to other nerds. and it may end up screwing up my system big time. plus i'm getting paid for this when i should be doing actual work!?! if you've got a lot of free time on your hands and like spending hours and hours in photoshop removing jagged pixels from thousands of .png files, go to town and enjoy. definitely wasn't enough fun for me though.

currently there isn't anything beyond the good old Graphite/Blue choices from before. one thing i am praying for is that they don't leave it as it is in the Panther preview. it is an absolute mess. you have Aqua with stripes mixed with flat gray in the same window!?! brushed metal here, stripes there, gray over there. it's ridiculous. it seriously looks like 20 different operating systems running at once. it really needs some consistency. i'm thinking it will get fine-tuned and cleaned up once they actually decide on something and implement it system-wide. but as of right now it's a real uggo.

i strongly agree that it is very schizophrenic, but even more than that, just plain ugly in a lot of ways. i share your hope that the designers come to their senses before they let this out on the street.

I saw the pictures of Panther on Apple's site and saw windows that looked different. That's why I thought they might have been using different themes. I hope they at least make it consistent and keep aqua, at least as a theme. I don't think I'd like the metal theme for the OS.

they have altered aqua in the public preview. it's not an all metal theme, but they added finder to the list of apps that use metal. it's getting really inconsistent where they use that and frankly annoying. but no, if they go with the current panther theme, which does, yes, look different in a lot of ways, they will more than likely not have an option to keep the jaguar look. but really, don't worry, there will be themers released probably within about a week of its public release, maybe even the day off, since developers are getting a chance to test it out now.

Thanks for the link. I tried it out, and couldn't even figure out how to change the close/collapse/resize buttons when creating a theme. But if you take a theme and edit it, it's much easier to figure out.

yeah, using someone else's is always preferrable to learn from i doubt anyone builds them from the ground up anyway. you need a base to start on, even when you want to make radical changes to it. it helps make sure you haven't missed anything. i did a lot of work on a windows XP theme, fixed up some OS X skins... it was pretty complicated, nothing i am too interested in doing over again.

i've heard quite a few grumbles from big themers about how complex they made panthers UI...it's even more hard to theme than jaguar was...but they are all hoping that they will be able to find a way to do it.

Well, I thought it was easier. I worked for hours, and made no change to Aqua whatsoever, even the stuff where it seemed obvious to what I was changing.
