I am totally new and coming over from the PC to the iMac/Apple world, but from what I am reading in these posts, is making me just a little concerned.

If you have a BRAND NEW system and your having these dead pixels and clicking hard drive noise's and not being able to burn cd's , dvd's and all the other issues I see posted. Than what is applecare doing for everyone? Or does everyone post on forums first before calling applecare or going to the apple store?

I am not saying or implying anything BAD against anyone , I am curious as to what happens and how its handled by Apple. I honestly in my heart believe that I made the right choice, by what I have read, and what I have dealt with as far as very very knowledgeable people in the apple store's and Comp USA, and a few friends who swear by apple . Like I said I am just curious , is apple blowing complaints off? Are buyers not getting what they paid for?

    Thanks for everyone's time.

    :D

So far, Apple have replaced my 24" iMac twice. Im about to ring applecare to return my 3rd one. Theyve always been very helpful, very polite, and quick to deal with things without question.

Im hoping this next one will be the one that has no problems, as i'd hate to have to return it for good as its a damn fine machine if I could just have a decent wireless connection and no humming screen!

    Two questions...

    1. Is the 24" iMac of the latest revs still having similar issues?

    2. Overall, is AppleCare worth the cost, esp. for a refurbed unit?

FWIW, I am looking at buying two iMacs, 17" [family] and a 24" me :D] in the very near future, like this week... :)

    1. No news as far as I know. Ive just got off the phone to Apple to return my 3rd 24". Number 4 is on its way. Its the last one im taking. If this one has issues, its going back and I'll either get a 20" or a Mini. Im hoping this new one will be a newer revision.

    2. I think AppleCare is definitely worth the cost. I recently had an issue with my almost 2 year old PowerBook G4. It went for repair via AppleCare. Had its ALC and Hard Disk replaced. Courier picked it up from me on the monday, it was returned to me wednesday morning. If id done all that outside of AC/Warranty, I dread to think of the cost. The Applecare on my 24" was £98. It was a no brainer.

Rob [btw, very good name there... ;)],

What all has been the issue(s) w/ your 3 different iMac's?

You have much patience and/or really want that 24" iMac... ;)

FWIW, I just bought a new 17" 2Ghz iMac, it has no problems whatsoever.

iMac 1 - Broken Airport, Humming screen.
iMac 2 - Working but unstable Airport, Humming screen, Cluster of dead pixels in centre of screen.
iMac 3 - Unstable Airport, Humming screen, Inconsistent startup chime (not a problem, but just plain weird) - sometimes didnt chime, and varied in volume regardless of system volume setting, Unreliable bluetooth using keyboard and mouse.

I use a 20" iMac in work, and its great, but the 24" is so much better in every respect. Apple have been really good at replacing it, and im hoping that eventually, i'll get one that finally works.
I can live with the humming, but the airport issues were just ridiculous, and made the computer unusable. I should get the replacement late next week.
