Good read, now I'm really looking forward to when the OS & apps are all written for 64 bit hardware, it's gonna be good!!!

I agree wholeheartedly - the Mac experience will change dramatically for the better when 64-bit computing, 64-bit Mac OS, and 64-bit Apple apps become more widespread. Keep in mind, though, that not all of Apple's applications will benefit from being 64-bit clean. Some of them will actually get slower, and they'll all grow larger.

Is there any information/timeline on when a 64-bit OS will be available for Macs?

There's never a timeline for anything that will be available from Apple sometime in the future. Only rumors.
