i currently have a FW400 seagate external (ext. 1), and i'm in the market for a FW800 external (ext. 2)...

so is it possible for me to connec the (ext.2) hdd to mbp via fw800, and since the (ext.2) is triple interfaced, connece the (ext.1) to the (ext.2) via fw400 and still have them work fine? i dont mind if the (ext.1) has the limitation of 400mb/s

Yes. But why not just hook the FW800 drive into the MBP's FW800 port and the FW400 drive into the MBP's FW400 port? That seems simpler to me.

because that way i save the FW400 port on mbp.. and when disconnect, i only need to unplug one cable, and etc

The setup you suggested will work, I'm working with my FW800 500gb Lacie HD hooked up to my powerbook and a small FW400 40gb HD daisy chained to the Lacie.

I used to plug my iPod into my 3 FW800 hard drives. It didn't get quite enough power though. :D

    related question:

are there any hubs that take fw 400 AND fw 800?

i've looked around to no avail.

even better would be a hub that does fw 400 + fw 800 + USB 2.0.

does anyone know of such a creature?
