some guy from Nigeria offered to buy my auction of my MacBook early and, despite living in the UK, he wants me to send it to Nigeria... I'm guessing I shouldn't do this...

No, it's very obviously a scam.

And you might want to change the title to "Damn Nigerian Scammers", as I'm sure there's plenty of Nigerians that aren't sitting there on eBay, scamming us all.

    But no, definitely a scam.

It's hard to believe these scams work but since they keep using them I guess people fall for them.

yeah I was thinking the same thing the other day. I mean, seriously, who's sending out their items without payment? or paying these guys to "be able to send payment" (I'm sorry, but I will need a 200 dollar advance in order to write and send you a check.. but i promise i will pay 400 extra...)..

eBay really needs to figure out some way to reign in the scammers, though.

Can someone tell me why Nigeria?

Why don't the scammers say they're from Zimbabwe or something?

I was going to suggest that one, but you beat me too it....

I suggest registering "m-m-m-macbook.com" and doing the same kind of thing. :)

There was a website (don't remember where anymore) where he would get people in nigeria/etc to carve objects in wood in order to make money, and they would try to scam him...of course it always backfired. It would be funny to combine the two. I say, get one guy to carve a macbook out of wood, and then send it to the other guy who wants to buy it early.

When I was selling my VAIO laptop for money to purchase my MacBook that happened to me THREE times! I was doing a "Buy It Now" on ebay and got somebody asking me to send it to Africa, New Zealand and Australia and all three were willing to pay the shipping costs. Evidently they get some idiots who actually ship their computer before getting payment. I finally set up an auction without the buy it now and sold it the regular way. I would just make sure you set a minimum purchase price so you make sure you get what you want.

The beauty of this logic is, eventually you will need money more than others. Who will give you money then?

I'm also having the same problem. I've got an iPod for sale and I've had about 6 emails from scammers asking to buy my ipod. They are complete idiots, their english is terrible, and they often type in CAPS.
